A Tuilik that is! Just what is a Tuilik? Well, it is the garment that was first made and worn by the original kayakers in the artic (specifically Greenland). To prevent water from coming into their kayaks and provide insulation from the deathly frigid waters of their area, they used seal skins as a combination hood, jacket and sprayskirt.
Today, we use more attainable and animal-friendly fabrics such as neoprene. The next workshop will be held on March 3rd with limited space left – so sign up soon to reserve your place!
Learn to make the “original” splash jacket/sprayskirt! Class will be held in Sea Kayak Carolina’s new, spacious, state-of-the-art “tuilik making workshop.” The only skills you need are eagerness to learn and hand strength to cut out a pattern with some accuracy. Pieces will be glued together and seams reinforced with heat seal tape: sewing seams is optional.
